The Andromeda Galaxy on 11/21/05

Here is another one of my efforts to get a decent image of the Andromeda Galaxy.   It seems this object gives me more trouble with noise and color balance than any other.  LoL!

Oh, well - practice makes perfect.  :-)

The Andromeda Galaxy on 11/21/05.   120mm F/5 refractor, Canon Digital Rebel, Baader Fringe-Killer and Lumicon Deep Sky filters.  Thirteen, 300 second sub-images at 800 ISO stacked in IRIS with dark, flat, bias calibration and DDP.  PixInsight for background subtraction.  Photoshop was used for levels, color balance adjustments and to rotate and crop.   North is to the right in this image.

The Pleiades on 11/30/05

A fine object that I never tire of observing is M45, the Pleiades star cluster.  It takes some good optics and special care to capture it in all it's glory.   Unfortunately, I think I managed to get only a fraction of that with this image.  With an object this bright, my cheap Synta optics begin to show their weaknesses, the main one being strong chromatic aberration.   The green halos were so bad I had to reduce that color down to very low levels, and that drove the image towards a predominately blue color.
